Steps to a New Website
1. CONSIDER THE PURPOSE OF THE SITE and your businesses aesthetic. Finds sites that you really like.
2. DETERMINE SITE CONTENT/INFO: You will think about what specific info you want on the site. Think about your clientele and what information is important for them to know about your business. What sets you apart from other businesses. What additional info do they need to know, for example hours , location , prices.
3A. DETERMINE PAGES: We will then organize the info from step 2 into the pages that will be on your site, these can be main pages and sub pages. (I will send to you what I think this might be based on the info I have and then we can work from there)
3B. CONSIDER ECOMMERCE SOLUTIONS: I will do some research to see which ones are good and could work well with your products.
——— I will present an estimated timeline and cost at this point.
4A. FIGURE OUT THE SITE FLOW: We will work together to develop a skeleton of the site and the flow based on the approved pages. You can look at different sites that have a similar product to get an idea of what kind of flow you like.
4B. FIGURE OUT ECOMMERCE SOLUTION: This would involve Laurie so we make sure it has all the back end features that she needs
5. CONSIDER THE DESIGN:Design wise I usually recommend to my clients to scan the web and bookmark a few sites they really like. This is the best way to get the design you really want.
6A. DISCUSS DESIGN: We talk about the design and what you think you would like the site to look like. I will prompt you with questions to really find out and use the visuals the client collected to make sure we are on the same page (usually websites). In your case your brochure is a good starting visual.
6B. DISCUSS AND COLLECT CONTENT: I will also discuss pages and content with you and collect what you have.
7. DESIGN DRAFT 1: I will design at least one mockup of your site based on our discussions. I will often do more than one.
8A. REVIEW DRAFT 1: We will talk about the design/designs that I have done and you will let me know what you like and don’t like about it. This is the stage where the design gets nailed down (may loop through steps 7 and 8A a few times). By the end we will have decided what the final design will look like.
8B. FINALIZE CONTENT: All the content supplied by this point will be considered the final content for the site to go live.
9. FINAL DRAFT: I will do a final mockup for your approval and then I will start coding the site.
10. SITE DEVELOPMENT
11. SET UP HOSTING, MERCHANT ACCOUNT, SHOPPING CART
12. ONLINE PROOFING: I will put the site online (but hidden ) so I may troubleshoot it. I will have you look at it too to make sure it’s everything you thought it would be.
13. APPROVE SITE
14. ONLINE LIVE: Once it is completely functioning and you agree that it’s good to go I will put it live with your URL.
